Perfect Match - Camperdown

2022

Commissioned through the Inner West Council initiative Perfect Match, the artwork titled Damun Equine’ was created in consultation with property owners Mike, Jenny, and their daughters.

Camperdown's rich history, deeply intertwined with horses, is evident in various ways. The historic Camperdown stables once stood at the artwork’s location, with remnants of their wooden gates integrated into a neighbouring property's fence. The area was a filming location for the movie Phar Lap and continues to see police officers riding through the streets in tribute to the working horses of the past. The mural prominently features five galloping steeds and is adorned with turpentine blossom shadows, reminiscent of the old turpentine forest. The colour palette reflects Camperdown's heritage, with dusty olive mirroring gum leaves, brown hues recalling the stable's wooden fence, and rusty bronze tones paying homage to ironworks and horseshoes. Soft pinks and bold peaches add nostalgic highlights to the artwork.
