City of Melton
2019
The work embraces Melton's distinctive environmental ecology, characterised by the vast western volcanic plains, renowned as the Newer Volcanic Province and ranking as the third largest volcanic plains globally. The mural's concept center’s on the local flora, intricately woven with national emblems signifying the diverse origins of the community. Symbolic flowers, such as the Lotus for India, Arabian Jasmine for the Philippines, Silver Fern for New Zealand, Maltese Centaury for Malta, and Chrysanthemum for Vietnam, grace the mural, each representing the origins of local residents. Beyond this cultural representation, the mural extends its embrace to the region's native biodiversity, spotlighting the endangered and vulnerable species that require preservation. Among them are the fragrant Leek Orchid and the iconic Orange-Bellied Parrot, along with the Eastern Barred Bandicoot, offering a profound reminder of the importance of protection and conservation efforts.
