Moore Street Canberra
AMP Capitol
2019
The project sought to encapsulate Canberra's essence and pay homage to significant local landmarks. The resulting mural vividly showcases native flora like Gang Gangs and Royal Bluebell's, symbols also found on the ACT State emblem. A white cockatoo at the mural's core recalls its historic presence along Northbourne Avenue. Intricate gum moth patterns, bittle gum nuts, and leaves intertwine with the mark-making of Canberra's landscape, mirroring new seedlings along Northbourne. Eucalyptus Rosii honors original Northbourne trees, while abstract brushwork adds dynamic movement. The composition masterfully includes horizontal elevations of Black Mountain, Mount Majura, Bruce Ridge Nature Reserve, and a topographical Mount Ainslie depiction, encapsulating personal experiences. The color palette resonates with Australian earthy tones, complementing summer greenery and infusing warmth amid winter's fallen deciduous foliage.
Inspiration emerged from Australia's distinct landscape hues. Earthy tones were deliberately chosen, harmonizing with lush summer leaves and warming winter landscapes as deciduous foliage falls. This connection to nature guided color choices, reflecting Australia's innate beauty. The resulting palette captures the mural's essence and establishes visual harmony that resonates throughout the artwork.
